Balloon flights usually use helium, hydrogen, or hot air. Helium is a popular choice because it is less dense than air. Although hydrogen is also lighter than air, it is less used because it is flammable and explosive. Hot air can also be used to fill balloons, but requires additional equipment to heat them and is therefore less commonly used than helium and hydrogen.
